Why Meals On Wheels?
For some people it’s a temporary solution while recuperating from an illness; for others it’s a permanent solution to maintaining their independence and continuing to live in their own homes.
What is the need?
The number of people who could benefit from Meals On Wheels grows by 10% each year and will continue to grow as our population ages. As the need for meals grows, so does the need for delivery volunteers.
Why should employees volunteer?
Donating just one hour per month helps ten to twelve people. That’s a good feeling…and they will know that your company is one that cares about the community.
How can companies help?
By sponsoring teams of employee volunteer meal deliverers, your company can make a difference in a critical area of need and strengthen your ties to your local community.
How do corporate teams work?
Each team consists of 8 to 10 people, including a leader who does the scheduling. Working in teams, each person gives only one hour a month. Team members deliver in pairs with one person acting as navigator while the other drives. Using their own car, a team picks up the meals and delivers them to individuals at nearby homes and apartments.
Meals are picked up around 10:30.
Delivery is usually completed in an hour.
